Movie buffs are in for a swell time as Nigeria’s Stephen Spielberg, Eddy Ugboma,
is poised to convert his classical movies to DVD. Insiders say Ugboma, who
holds the record of the only African to have shot 13 movies on celluloid can’t
wait for the project to take off!
“This is
authoritative and I can assure you that this project means a lot to the
veteran. He’s currently working on plans to convert his classics to DVD so that
the younger generation who did not have the opportunity of going to the cinemas
will experience firsthand, his great movies and the strong message they hold
for our nation today.
”Remember,
Ugboma is known for doing statement films so the reason for this effort is
didactic as it would teach and educate our youths on issues concerning our great
nation,” the source added.
Ugboma’s
classics include Oyenusi, The Boy Is Good, Apalara, The Mask, Oil Doom, Vengeance of The Cult, Black President
and Omiran Esun Ake among others.
Ugboma came
into film after a dramatic encounter with American screen legend, Charlton
Heston in 1959 when he came to Nigeria to premier his classical movie, Ben Hur. At the time Ugboma was just a teenager.
Meanwhile,
plans are in top gear for the celebration of his 50 years on stage. The
celebrations would climax with a concert and launch of his autobiography
entitled Eddy Ugboma: The Icon. He's
currently working on two statement films. They are If Only and Treason.
