The National
Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has called for synergy between the Board
and the courts within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with a view to
sanitising the film industry in the country.
The Director
General of the Board, Patricia Bala, made the call during a courtesy call on
the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. I.M. Bukar in Abuja.
According to her, such collaboration would not only sanitize the industry, it
would also help practitioners reap the fruit of their labour.
The DG also
briefed the chief judge on the functions of the Board which include the
registering and licensing of distributors, registering and licensing of
premises for the exhibition and distribution of movies, censoring of film and
video works as well as prescribing safety standards for premises used for the
exhibition and distribution of films in the country.
In his
response, Bukar thanked Bala for the visit and assured her he would do his best
within the confines of his jurisdiction to make sure that the Board is given
adequate support in the discharge its legal mandate of sanitizing the society
of unwholesome film products. Bukar also observed that the need to amend the
enabling law of the Board so as to enable the organization function effectively
could not be over-emphasised.
