A fresh round of crisis is
rocking the Association of Performing Musicians of Nigeria (PMAN), as the
association’s treasurer, Harris Ibezim Okeilo aka Dr. Zimakoy, has
petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, over
alleged criminal activities regarding the accounts of the association.
According to a copy of the
petition which was made available to Entertainer, Zimakoy is alleging that
Pretty Okafor has embezzled N100m belonging to the association.
“I am filing this petition to
request for the immediate attention and intervention of the Assistant Inspector
General of Police, Zone 2, into the fraudulent financial malpractices,
fraudulent conversion of union funds, criminal enrichment and conduct likely to
cause breach of peace perpetuated by Mr. Pretty Okafor, Chairman, PMAN Interim
Caretaker Committee, with the active connivance of his wife, Nnebor Okafor and
Mr. Kenny George,” the petition read.
In the petition, Zimacoy is
also alleging that Pretty, his wife and Kenny George have prevented him from
carrying out his duties as the treasurer of the union and that they have
hijacked the unions accounts which was credited to the tune of N100m by donors
and spent the money without his knowledge.
In a telephone chat with
Pretty Okafor, the Chairman, PMAN Caretaker Committee, described Zimakoy as a
disgruntled element who was on suspension. According to him, the petition is
just another attempt by Zimakoy to distract him from his job as PMAN Chairman
Caretaker.
Admitting that he had been
quizzed by the police, Okafor said: “Zimacoy has been suspended for corrupt and
fraudulent practices. That petition he wrote was because he wanted to get back
at me. This is the first time PMAN is having Auditing and Accounts Departments.
When I assumed office I told my team it would no longer be business as usual.
PMAN has changed; this is a new PMAN and we mean business.
“He is saying that Lagos
State government gave us N20m which we embezzled but remember that Lagos state
has always partnered us and we showed the police a letter from Lagos state
government which categorically stated that their partnership with us did not
involve giving us money.”
