Godfather of Nigerian comedy, Alibaba, has officially
unveiled the top three last men standing at his annual comedy show, spontaneity.
They are Dewone(Adebayo Adedayo), Emeakpore Ofajevwe (Short Family) and
Tolulope Olayiwola.
The event, which took place at his office, located in
Lekki, Lagos, last week Wednesday, also had in attendance top comedians.
Presenting the car keys to the winner, Dewone, Alibaba
said: “There is need for comedians to step up their game. Stand up comedy is
the most challenging art form because you get immediate reaction. The holy
grail of comedy is spontaneity which is the ability of a comedian to take the
mic and just entertain. Anything you give to him is material and I felt that we
need to inculcate this in up-and-coming comedians.
“This platform is designed to empower the younger
generations. Having worked in the past 30 years in the industry, this is my way
of giving back.”
Commenting on his victory, Dewone, who won the 2015
edition and went home with a brand new sedan said: “I am really delighted by
this opportunity. Words cannot express my joy. I want to thank Alibaba for
giving me a platform to be heard. Now I am dreaming of the stars.”
Meanwhile, Short Family emerged first runners-up and
went home with N.25m while Tolulope Olayiwola, third runners-up went home with
N.2m. the event was held on New Year’s day, January 1.
