50 years after he was assassinated, the children of
Nigeria’s Finance Minister in the first Republic, Late Chief Festus Okoti Ebo,
are making plans to immortalise him as he clocked his jubilee this year.
In an
interview, Dr.
Ajoritsedere Awosika, one of his daughters
and his sixth child who was barely 13-years old when he died opened up on the
family’s plans.
“We remember him every day but hold a
memorial event annually. 50 years after his death, his principles and the
issues he fought for still need to be examined. There is a need for history to
make room for him as an enigma. It is to this extent that we intend to launch a
book in his honour entitled, ‘Chief F.S. Okotie-Eboh; CMG/MP: In Time and
Space.”
According
to her, her father should be remembered as somebody who was brave, honest and
made his money from hard work because he never stole Nigeria’s money but gave
to the country.”
Okoti
Eboh along with Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Tafawa Balewa, were
assassinated in Nigeria’s first coup in 1966.
