The winner of Nigerian Idols Season 4, Evelle, has revealed
that at a point she quit singing totally for two years and started working at a
restaurant as a cashier because music was not taking her any closer to
her dreams after years of dedication and hard work.
In an exclusive chat with
toniogagablog at Dream Studios, Omole, Lagos, venue of the grand finale of the music talent
hunt show currently in its fourth season, the new millionaire recounted her
journey to the top and the challenges she faced.
“I have been singing since
I was four years. It all started in church but after so many years I became disappointed
and so I quit singing completely and got a job working as a cashier at a
restaurant.”
One other reason Evelle says made her
take the decision was because she was sick and tired of disappointing her family since they placed so much hope on her abilities.
However, after two years
of working as a cashier, her first love came
calling again and she was compelled to resume the pursuit of her dreams. Fortunately she was
able to convince the management of the restaurant where she worked to start a
live band.
“They loved the idea and
before I knew it I was back into music doing what I loved doing. Before then I
only knew a few songs so I had to learn a lot of new songs like reggae, jazz,
pop and whatever. And all that helped prepare me for Nigerian Idol; I am so
grateful to God.”
An initiative of Optima
Media Studios run by Rotimi Pedro, the show was sponsored by Pepsi and
Etisalat.
