Fashionistas are in for a
refreshing online experience as model, publisher and makeup artiste, Omolola
Sonowo aka Lola Shon’s fashion blog, www.lolarshon.com berths with a bang
today! This much the fashionista, who took time out to start a family in 2010
told tonyogagablog in a chat earlier in the week.
Lolar Shon, a graduate of
Theatre Arts from the Lagos State University (LASU) expressed her joy at the
development declaring that at last, after months of planning and working round
the clock, her new baby was finally going on stream.
“After years of planning
and working, today will witness the official launch of my fashion blog/website
conceptualised to make lots of corrections and set things right regarding
fashion blogging which I am focussing on. Fashion for me is a do or die affair.
Among others, there is a mobile application which people can use to download
stuff from my blog,” Lola said.
Commenting on what gave
her the inspiration, the fashionista continued: “I needed to check out stuff
online a while ago so I visited a couple of fashion blogs and what I saw was
quite dis-heartening because the so called fashion bloggers have strayed into
areas that have nothing to do with fashion. They tell you about who died and
who just signed a new record deal but they don’t take it from the fashion
angle. I wouldn’t mind blogging on anything but it must be from the fashion
angle.” Lola said.
According to Lolar shon,
the vision to go online was born in 2008 after she had a chat with singer, Azeezat,
who had encouraged her but at the time she says she felt that Africa wasn’t
ready for the revolution.
“But I was wrong. Little
did I know Nigerians were actually ready for it,” Lola Shon says in retrospect.
“Besides, I didn’t just want to step in and then crash out so I sat back, made
reviews and saw what people were doing right and what they are doing wrong so I
said ‘let me learn from peoples mistakes and that is what is setting me apart.”
However, Lolar Shon added
that despite the drift, a number of fashion bloggers are doing quite well but
insisted on the need for fashion bloggers to be professional: “We should be
able to do it properly and let people know what is in fashion and what is out
and what should be done and what shouldn’t be done.”
Lolar
Shon says her brand is a fashion brand that entails fashion, clothing and
anything that has to do with fashion. Lolar Shon is the creator of Fashion Fusion, an annual fashion show that fuses fashion with music.
