Nigerian-born
British actor, Ladi Emeruwa, is leading a 17-man cast and crew to Nigeria to
deliver the much-awaited stage adaptation of Shakespeare’s popular tragedy and
longest play, Hamlet, as part of the ongoing two-year global tour of the troupe
tagged: The Hamlet Globe to Globe
Tour.
The
event, which is scheduled to hold at the Muson Centre, Lagos, on March 5 and 6
respectively is expected to feature three editions namely, the Matinee
Performance, which kicks-off at 2:00pm, The Evening Session, which
kicks-off at 6:30pm and a repeat the following day at Ladi’s alma matter, St.
Saviours’ School, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Conceived
to mark the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birth and increase international
understanding of his works, the show debuted at Shakespeare’s Globe, London, on
April 23, 2014, and will be replicated in 205 countries around the world. The
African debut was held at Algeria’s National Theatre.
According
to the event promoter, the Nigerian edition is already enjoying immense support
from a host of organisations including The British Council, Muson Centre,
Wheatbaker Hotel, Saint Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, and several media partners.
Directed
by Globe’s Artistic Director, Dominic Dromgoole, the troupe comprises 12 actors
and five stage managers.
