Hope is
finally here as a major breakthrough in the decades’ old controversy rocking
the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), was achieved recently
when the PMAN Caretaker Committee, led by Kevin Lucciano Gabriel, got the
endorsement of the Registrar of Trade Unions with a mandate to take over the
affairs of the union and reunite it.
A statement confirming the development signed by the Chairman of
its Care Taker Committee, Kevin Lucciano Gabriel read thus: “The PMAN Caretaker
Committee, in concert with the Registrar of Trade unions in Nigeria and the
Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, wish to bring to public notice
that the prolonged leadership battle that engulfed the activities of the
Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has been laid to rest. This
is coming on the heels of a joint meeting of all factional leaders, the Peace
Initiative Committee and the Registrar of Trade Unions, held on Tuesday,
October, 29, 2013.’
The statement urged all state chapters of PMAN, all Nigerian
musicians and members of the public to key into the full activities of the PMAN
Peace Initiative Committee led by Barrister Kevin Lucciano, under the
supervision of the Registrar, Mrs. N. Mbogu.
“This endorsement letter formally brings to an end, the
recognition of any faction and all factional activities in the Association.
Members of the public are kindly advised in their own interest to desist from
further transactions of any PMAN related business with persons that present
themselves as representatives of the National Headquarters of PMAN,” Gabriel
said, commenting on the development.
Meanwhile, Corroborating Gabriel, a letter dated July 7, and
signed by N. Mbogu, Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour &
Productivity stated thus: 'I refer to your letter dated 3rd July
2014...I am in this letter reiterating the endorsement given to the Peace
Initiative Committee, which has metamorphosed into the PMAN Caretaker Committee
by the office of the Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour and
Productivity, at a meeting held on 29 October, 2013, with PMAN stakeholders.
The committee was given the mandate of reconciling all factions thereby
achieving a level playing ground for all members towards conducting national
elections nationwide that will usher in credible and visionary leaders.'
The letter added that all peace loving members including state
chapters are expected to key into the Caretaker Committee’s activities if they
have not already done so as a matter of urgency.
