Rib
cracker, Otaghware Otas Onodjayeke a.k.a.
Otas
Igosave, has embarked on a European tour that has taken him to a dozen European
capitals which he is lighting up with his brand of comedy alongside Klint Da
Drunk. In a telephone chat with tonyogagablog,
the indigene of Sapele, Delta State, opened up on the journey so far.
“I
give God all the glory. There’s no retirement age in comedy so I will never
retire. It is not like music or football where you are limited; and that’s why
you still find the likes of Steve Harvey in the trade.
“Presently,
I’m on a European tour doing what I enjoy doing best. The idea is to get
close to my fans in this part of the world and we are targeting Africans
especially Nigerians. It's not been easy though catching up with flights from
one country to the other or hopping from one city to the other. It’s been a
litany of long road trips and most times, short sleep time but trust me, it’s
been fun because I am working with one of the best teams in the world,” Igosave
said
According
to the rib cracker, so far it’s been a celebration of success as far as the
tour is concerned and the tour has also revealed new things about his fellow
comedian, Klint Da Drunk.
“Klint
Da Drunk is just amazing. He has a unique way of communicating with the
audience and everybody just loves him, the shows have been very successful and
all praise goes to God Almighty. Most of the shows sold out two days before
they were held. We were in Antwerp, Belgium, where the Nigerian ambassador
graced the show. We have been to Germany, Czech Republic, Holland, Switzerland,
Austria and Spain with a few like Italy, Hungary, and France to go.”
How
are Europeans warming up to their jokes?
“It's
been awesome! Most guests are Africans though we have a few Europeans
among them so we do our jokes in both pidgin and Standard English because most
of them understand English and our body language does the rest. We just do the
little we can and God does the rest for us so it’s been a very exciting
experience.”
On
whether he ever believed comedy could take him this far in life, Igosave, who began
doing comedy alongside Igodye in Warri, Delta State, said: “I just keep doing
my research to flow with the present. Though I knew I had what it takes to
succeed but I never imagined I could be this big!”
Arguably
one of Nigeria’s best and most versatile stand-up comedian, Igosave celebrated
his birthday in the UK on May 28 and stars like Basketmouth and Igodye among a
host of others were with him to celebrate.
An
indigene of Delta State, Igosave is the fifth child in a family of seven. He started
comedy as a mock news caster on DTV Top Show hosted by Tunde Omonode with his
friend, Igodye in 2004. Today he has performed on the biggest entertainment
platforms in the country including Nite
of A Thousand laughs and won numerous awards.
Among
others he has released a comic album entitled Confession and starred in movies like Warri Connection and My House
Help.
