A pastor in Lagos, Prophet
Joseph Enoch Apata, General Overseer of Vineyard of Deliverance Ministries aka The Rock Church and Prince Olalekan Shekoni-Alo, a senior pastor at Vineyard of Deliverance Ministries have petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris Kpotum, over a plot to assassinate them.
Dated April 27 and signed
by Deji Owolagba, Apata and Shekoni-Alo, through their lawyers, Sigma
Solicitors, are alleging that plans have been perfected to assassinate them.
According to the petition,
on Sunday, April 23, Apata received a call from one Dayo who informed him of
the plot. The petition stated that Dayo had earlier paid a visit to
another suspect known as Kayode at his home where he saw Pastor Apata’s
pictures after which Kayode confided in him that he was contracted to
assassinate Apata after being offered huge sums of money as ransomed for
Apata’s life. Kayode also told Dayo that they had been monitoring Apata’s
movements in view of his assassination.
The petitioners further
stated that Dayo had blown the whistle on Kayode and informed Apata stating
that he was interceding on behalf of the pastor because of his good name.
The petition states that
the pastor had contacted the police despite being warned not to because they
(assassins) operate a deadly ring with other cells that will carry on with the
job in case they are nabbed.
In the petition, Apata’s
lawyers stated that he had played along with the assassins by requesting
further proof and Dayo had provided a recorded video of several meetings
between the assassins and their clients which culminated in a number of arrests
by police operatives from Area J Command, Lagos.
The petition read thus:
“The suspects have boasted of their superior connections with high powered
individuals and have reiterated their threats of carrying out revenge. Since
assassinations are rampant now, we are calling on you ( Inspector General of
Police) to use you good offices to promptly intervene and save our clients’
lives.”
