Presenter of popular
entertainment YouTube show, Talking With Martins Show, Martins C. Martins, has called
on Nigerian artistes to be original and improve on their content if they want
to remain relevant adding that failure to do so will confine them in the
dustbin of Nigerian music history.
“Most young artists are
making money but they are not thinking of the future aspects of the business,”
Martins told Entertainer in a chat. “They all want to sing but their music is
not making sense. They disrespect women and only sing about material things. It
is always shake your bum bum or see all the money I have got but I don't think
that will not make them legends. They all want to be like 2face but they can't because
their content is dirty and artistry is below par. Yes they are making money
smiling to the bank and I enjoy their songs but in a couple of years from now,
who will be listening to them? They are celebs today but will they be tomorrow,”
he asked rhetorically.
Martins says that if they
want to be relevant they must emulate the likes of Tuface, Timi Dakolo,
Omawunmi and Burna Boy among a host of other creative Nigerian artistes.
“It is time they know that
music is not all about making money but laying legacy that is why I respect
2baba and these great guys doing a yeoman’s job out there. 20 years from now I
will still be enjoying his songs but these youngsters, if they don’t up their
game would end up in the dustbin of Nigerian music in a couple of years.
“If you can remember last year I talked about Tonto Dikeh being under
D'banj record label and all that and the reaction that followed. D'banj is still
fighting for market share and I don't see D'banj having that talent or
capability of raising someone in the industry. Fine, he is a good entertainer
but he is not a good artist manager, promoter or professional record label
owner so I was saying that Tonto Dikeh should retrace her steps and now I have
been proved right,
“Earlier
this year, probably her husband told her the bitter truth talking about her
stopping the music and then she exited the record label; she is no longer with
D'banj. Now that is good for her.”
